The scenes representing the interior of the von Trapp family home in The Sound of Music were filmed in the gorgeous Leopoldskron Palace and at the Frohnburg Palace in Salzburg. The Frohnburg Palace was chosen to portray the exterior shots of the von Trapp villa, which still stands on the other side of the Salzach River and is now a hotel. Outside the Frohnburg is where Maria sang โI have confidenceโ, as she danced along the tree-lined Hellbrunner Allee. From the bus, weโll have a good view of the Frohnburg Palace, which now houses part of the Mozarteum University, one of the worldโs best-known music conservatories. Leopoldskron Palace was the main location for the movieโs interior shots and for the famous scene in which the kids fall into the adjacent lake. Scenes for songs like โEdelweissโ, โThe Lonely Goatherdโ, โSo Long, Farewellโ and โMy Favorite Thingsโ were shot in the Leopoldskron Palace. The Leopoldskron Palace can only be viewed (beautifully!) from the opposite side of its lake on the Singing Sound of Maria Tour. And of course a musical number or two will be part of that stop as well.
The pavilion (Gazebo) from The Sound of Music now stands on the grounds of the park surrounding the Hellbrunn Palace. During filming back in 1963, the gazebo stood on the grounds of the Leopoldskron Palace. That is where the romantic love scene with Maria and Georg, as well as the scenes for the song โ’I Am 16 Going On 17โ were filmed. That song will be performed on its original filming location on the Singing Sound of Maria Tour. Plus, youโll be given the golden opportunity to take photos with your loved ones there. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to create unforgettable memories and mementos. Then, thanks to the WLAN system in our premium tour bus, you can share your pictures with your friends and family right away.
The wedding in the movie The Sound of Music was filmed in the basilica in the lakeside village of Mondsee in the Salzkammergut. This is where Maria and the Baron von Trapp said, โI do.โ The Singing Sound of Maria Tour will take you to this lovely church in Mondsee. And of course as part of the show, a brief musical interlude will be performed here as well. You will also be given some time to explore this picturesque film location and preserve your unforgettable memories in personal photos.
